Use of the

·        The Delhi is the capital of India.             Delhi is the capital of India.

·        He has failed in the English.                    He has failed in English.

·        She was suffering from the typhoid.      she was suffering from typhoid.

·        The union is the strength.                           Union is strength.

(Words before we use the)

         (Incorrect)                                                            (Correct)

·        This is a best player I have ever met. This is the best player I have ever met.

·        Rose is sweetest of all flowers.               Rose is the sweetest of all flowers.

·        Rich are happy but poor are unhappy. The Rich are happy but the poor are     

                                                                                  Unhappy

Explanation: we don’t use “the” with personal noun (Delhi, English) ,material noun (gold, silver) and abstract noun (union ,honesty) and also with disease name.
